Spiritual Communion

When I was going through my convert-classes some years back, I found great comfort in this prayer by Padre Pio. I would look longingly as the priest would hold up the blessed sacrament. Some days I would cry (no blubber) at my strong desire to be united with Jesus flesh and blood in the Eucharist. This is a prayer for anytime of day, any time of life. Pray it slowly and thoughtfully. I find the more times I recite it the calmer i become and the more desire fills my heart. A Spiritual Communion

Padre Pio celebrated Mass daily and at various times during the day, he would pause and pray, making a spiritual communion. My Jesus, I believe that you are truly present in the Most Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire to possess You within my soul. Since I am unable at this moment to receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as being already there, and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen
